Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need the pro version of The Events Calendar?

We originally made our plugin specifically for the free version of The Events Calendar because there was no way to use it in Divi. There was no immediate need to make it for their Pro version because technically you could use shortcodes which only are included in their pro version. So we set out to make a way to display and customize events from The Events Calendar free version in Divi. Gradually, we have added support for specific features in their pro version and various addons they offer. You can check everything our modules support int heir pro version and addons at this link: https://divieventscalendar.com/docs/compatibility/

What is the difference between your plugin and theirs?

We get a lot of questions from people that are confused about the relationship of our Divi Events Calendar plugin to The Events Calendar plugin. We often get questions about the pro version, tickets, payments, bulk import, bulk import, addons, etc. but we have to remind people that we are not The Events Calendar, and we are not affiliated with them.

If you are interested in learning more about their Pro features, please click here to see all the features (affiliate link).

Both our Divi Events Calendar and The Events Calendar go hand-in-hand together. The Events Calendar needs to be installed first for our Divi Events Calendar to work. This is because they work together, and our plugin relies on theirs.

The Events Calendar is the core of the actual event info and management. Their plugin handles anything related to the events themselves, including anything related to tickets, payments, or other addons that they offer. Our Divi Events Calendar plugin adds new custom Divi event modules to the Divi Builder.

Our plugin modules pull in the data for the events and gives you the familiar Divi module interface with all our custom settings and features you need to display and style events in any Divi Builder layout.

Without our plugin, there is no way to use The Events Calendar in Divi. In fact, they don’t even offer shortcodes in their free version, so if you use Divi, our plugin is the only solution, and it’s a good one!

Keep in mind our modules are totally separate from anything their pro version has to display events. On any given page you can either use their display, or our modules. You can’t pick and choose which parts of their plugin and which parts of our modules you want on the same page.

PLEASE CHECK OUR COMPATIBILITY PAGE

Are your modules compatible with The Events Calendar PRO?

Yes, but of course that depends on what you are expecting. Our plugin works perfectly fine with their pro version for a very simple reason: most of the pro features of their plugin have to do with event management. For example, the pro version has features like syncing with Facebook or Google Calendar, RSVP and tickets, community events, etc. These pro features do not affect the actual event data that our modules display (title, image, date, time, etc.).

The original intent of our plugin was to make it easy to display events in Divi, not to make it work with every feature of their plugin. But we do continue to add features that users request.

PLEASE CHECK OUR COMPATIBILITY PAGE

Can I mix The Events Calendar plugin or paid addons with your modules?

The event display from The Events Calendar is totally different and separate from the display our modules create. So for example, it would not work to add their Filter Bar addon and expect it to work with our modules. You would either use theirs or ours, it would not work to mix and match.

Can I customize the single event pages?

Yes, we are super excited to offer the first ever single event page builder for Divi and The Events Calendar. We introduced a new module specifically for this in our 2.0 update. This new module called Events Page has all the features you need to display the elements of the single event pages in a Divi Theme Builder template. You can learn more about this in our Events Page Module documentation. You may also be interested in a few other single event page design options.

How do I use Events Tickets Plus or other paid addons on single event pages?

This actually has nothing to do with our plugin — the question is actually about The Events Calendar and Divi, regardless if our plugin modules are used or not, since you would need to use shortcodes in the Divi Theme Builder template anyhow.

The answer to this question and many like it is simple – shortcodes!  So head over to The Events Calendar Pro Shortcodes and find what you need and place them anywhere you want in the single events page. You can also check out our tutorial about How To Add Shortcodes In Divi.

Do your modules have language translation support?

Yes, we are gradually adding support for various translations upon request. Please see the Translation document for details.

Do your modules support recurring events?

The answer is yes, they do! But keep in mind that this question requires some context with how the events are handled. Recurring events are not available in The Events Calendar free version, only their Pro version. So to start, regardless if we support recurring events, you would need the Pro version of The Events Calendar to use them.

But yes, we have added full support for the Recurring Events feature of The Events Calendar Pro in our Divi Events Calendar 2.1. So now you can simply choose to show or hide recurring events in the Events Feed module and in the Events Calendar module.

How does the date and time format work?

Our event modules automatically use the same event date and time formats as set in your WordPress General settings. You can choose to override those in The Events Calendar settings as well, and our will reflect it. Even further, our modules all have date format and time format settings as well, giving you very granular control over the display.

To learn more about date and time formats, I highly recommend reading this article from Elegant Themes.

Note that the start and end time in our module works the same as in The Events Calendar. If you only want to show the start time, then set the same date/time for both start time and end time in the event settings.

Note that you should double-check the date and time format settings in WordPress>Settings>General and the “End of day cutoff” time in The Events Calendar settings. If the end of day cutoff is set wrong, dates will sometimes be off a day, depending on their start and end times.

Why is my plugin different from what is shown in your video?

The Nature Of Video Documentation

We keep releasing updates, new features, and improvements to this plugin. Because of this, videos become outdated quickly due to the nature of the format. There’s nothing we can do about that except ask you to always check the documentation section of our website here for all the most accurate and up-to-date information about the plugin.

The Module Names

When we first released this plugin we had only one module which was named “Divi Events Calendar.” When we started adding additional modules, we knew we needed to have a better naming convention.

In some of our older videos, you may see the original module. Please note that this original module was  renamed “Events Feed” after we added the calendar view module which is named “Events Calendar.”

Does this work with the Divi Builder PLUGIN, or just the THEME?

Yes, our plugin is compatible with the Divi Builder plugin by Elegant Themes. However, this question and answer requires some important context.

Our plugin integrates The Events Calendar with Divi. It does this partially by taking advantage of the amazing Divi Them Builder, the feature in Divi that allows you to create templates. So even though our plugin would work fine with only the Divi Builder plugin, it would be severely limited since their plugin does not include the Theme Builder (of course). So you would miss out on things such as setting the main /events/ slug archive page, creating dynamic event category pages, and designing dynamic templates for the single event pages.

If you just want a simple events feed or calendar on your pages, then yes, that would work fine. But for the other things mentioned here, you would need to be using the Divi Theme.

Does this work with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF)?

That very much depends on what the question is about. Does the Advanced Custom Fields plugin work with Divi? Absolutely, ACF with The Divi Theme Builder and dynamic content are great companions! Do our custom event modules display the fields from ACF? No. But remember, you can certainly use ACF with Divi on single event pages, but it would not have anything to do with our modules.
