Events Taking Long To Load
Issue
We recently had several customers with the same issue – events were either not loading, or were loading after 10 seconds in the Events Calendar module. The answer is very simple. The one customer had 1,300 events, and the other had 2,983. They were showing all of those events in the calendar, which means that when you load the page, all of those events also try to load including the details and featured images of every event on the site. If the images are not optimized, you can imagine how much loading needs to take place! Even if they are optimized, do the math. It could be a lot of MBs and GBs of data! So that obviously explains why it may take long for events to load.
Solution
This is exactly why we already introduced settings to solve this in version 2.1. First enable the Limit Past/Future Events toggle, then two settings will appear to limit the number of events that show in the past and future. By default, the setting limits events to only showing 1 month in the past and 6 months in the future.
Events Not Showing In Calendar
If you are adding our Events Calendar module, but there are no events showing, the first thing to check is if there is an issue in The Events Calendar. To do this, go to the default /events/ URL of your site. This is the default event archive page where you will see the output from The Events Calendar. If you are using this page with our module and the Theme Builder template, you will need to temporarily deactivate our Divi Events Calendar plugin to check this.
If there are no events showing in the output from The Events Calendar, then this check confirms the issue is not in our modules, but something else with their plugin, and you will need to contact The Events Calendar support.
If the events show in their output but not in our, be sure to double-check the settings in the modules. It’s easy to accidentally adjust settings and maybe there are no events that match your selected criteria.
The organizer checkboxes change selection when I add a new organizer.
If you are displaying events by organizer by selecting the checkboxes for each organizer, you may encounter a very unfortunate issue in Divi. To be clear, this is not a bug in our module, but rather a limitation in the core Divi integration with WordPress which we subsequently affected by. This issue will only happen if you are adding new organizers, and only when their placement in the list in alphabetical order is before the already selected organizers. It is a bit confusing, but basically when a new organizer is added, it bumps all the checkboxes down one item. In this situation, you will need to remember to update the checkbox selections each time a new organizer is added.
FAQs
If you have questions not covered in the other guides and videos in our documentation, please check the frequently asked questions below. As we notice customers facing the same questions, we will update these FAQs with answers for your convenience. You can also check the main plugin FAQs page for more answers to common questions.
Why are events not showing on mobile?
- Keep in mind, you can still click on the event to view the details in the tooltip popup.
- If you want alternative options, we suggest setting the view to “List” instead of “Month” on Phone using the responsive options in the setting.
- Another option is to use the visibility settings in Divi to hide the Events Calendar module on Phone, and instead show an Events Feed module (and hide it on Desktop and Tablet).
Can I use more than one module per page?
Due to the nature of the plugin, you can only use one Events Calendar module per page. If more than one is added, then only the first will show. It is very uncommon that you would need more than one anyhow.
Why are thumbnails not showing in the calendar?
If you are using the setting to show the featured images as thumbnails in the “Month” view of the calendar, but they are not showing, please first check if the events are multi-day events or recurring events. It is not possible to show an image in these scenarios. The thumbnail will only display for regular events within a single day.
